Visually Busty

Undoubtedly Lara Croft is well known for her bust. The designers behind this game were careful to leverage the looks of Lara and her assets in the most accommodating way, along with entertaining animations and well-designed symbols. The high cards symbols 10 through A are stylised to match the theme and are accompanied by a crouching Lara, Lara with two pistols, a tiger, an idol, a gadget and the Tomb Raider logo. The reels are set on a greyish background reminiscent of the caves Lara explores. Coinciding with the visuals is a continual murmuring sound akin to the echoes and muffles heard in those caves.

Raiding the Reels: A Wild, a Scatter and a Bonus

The Tomb Raider slot has 5 reels and optional pay lines, up to a maximum of 15. Players must activate the lines they wish to play by placing their bets. The symbol of the Tomb Raider logo acts as the wild and the symbol of the Lara with her pistols acts as the scatter. Both the wild and scatter can appear on any reel. The wilds substitute the standard symbols to complete winning combinations while the scatters trigger the free spins bonus game. Additionally the symbol of the Idol acts as the bonus symbol, granting access to the special bonus round. The reels move quickly, much like the protagonist, and can be heard landing with a distinct thud.

Croft to the Max: 7,500 coins on offer.

The maximum win on offer in this game is 7,500x the wager, which can be won in the base game by landing 5 wild symbols on an active pay line. While not a huge amount, this is decent for a non-progressive jackpot slot with a higher chance for success that most big jackpots on offer.

Bonus in the Tomb: Two different bonus rounds playable

Landing 2 scatters pays out double the wager bet while landing three or more scatters triggers the free spin bonus. In this game the player gets three free spins and winnings are subject to a 3x multiplier. This bonus can be re-triggered indefinitely by landing three or more scatters. Landing three or more Idol symbols on an active pay line triggers the pick and win bonus round. In this round players can choose three idols from twelve, each awarding an individual credits bonus. To add visual appeal, this bonus round is played on an additional screen. The values hidden by the twelve idols depend on the amount of idols that triggered the bonus. If the bonus round is triggered by three idols the bonus idols hide between 36 and 1500 bonus points. If the bonus round is triggered by four idols the bonus idols hide between 48 and 2000 bonus points. If the bonus round is triggered by five idols the bonus idols hide between 60 and 2500 bonus points.

Our Take

This one of the classic Microgaming slots and is still popular over a decade later for good reason. Sure the visuals may seem a bit dated now, the audio might sound a bit corny and the maximum win might not raise many eyebrows but there are enough positives to make the playing experience worthwhile. With the decent pay out percentage and undeniable charm of a classic, the Tomb Raider online video slot has its place cemented in the history books.
