First Nations and Sonco Gaming Team-up in Canadian Casino Endeavor

Sonco Gaming, a multifaceted property development and gaming management company, partnered with five Nova Scotia-based First Nation Tribes in December to purchase Pure Canadian Gaming’s operating assets. This casino operator owns four properties in Alberta.

Sonco Gaming and the First Nations formed the Indigenous Gaming Partners (IGP), which will operate Pure Canadian Gaming’s existing casinos, build upon its infrastructure, and create economic opportunities for their communities.

“We’re always looking at ways to diversify our revenues for our community, and to find ways to generate our own source revenue instead of relying on government funding,” said IGP Chairman Michael Peters to Canadian Gaming Business.

“In Nova Scotia, we’re already involved in gaming on a small scale. Each of the five members of Indigenous Gaming Partners have a small amount of VLTs and gaming in the community, but we’re looking to really expand on that and diversify our revenue streams, not only in different industries but also geographically.”
